Age 94. Blair, NE, formerly of Norfolk, NE. Bernice died Monday, August 18, 2014, at Nye Legacy in Fremont, NE.

Bernice Ann (Nissen) Zobel, daughter of Carl and Ella (Falter) Nissen, was born on the family farm near Osmond. She was baptized and confirmed at the Eden Valley Lutheran Church. Her grade school years were spent in the District 79 country school just down the road from the farm. Bernice attended Osmond High School where she graduated with the class of 1938.

On Feb. 14, 1944, Bernice was married to Glenn Zobel at Colorado Springs, Colo. Glenn was stationed in the Army there. The couple were blessed with four children: Beth, Terrell, Mical and Julie.

She moved home to the family farm while Glenn was overseas during the war. They moved to Plainview and then to Albion where they operated a bakery with Glenn’s brother Gordon. In 1947, Glenn and Bernice moved to Norfolk where they remained many years until moving to Blair to be nearer to a daughter and son. After Glenn’s death in 2003, Bernice lived in Shepherd’s Village Assisted Living until moving to Nye Legacy in December 2013 until her death.

Bernice was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk and the Mount Olive Ladies Aid. She also served on the election committee for Madison County.

Being a military wife and staunch Republican, Bernice loved her country and stayed keenly knowledgeable of world affairs her entire life. In her free time, Bernice found much enjoyment tending to her flower garden, oil painting and baking (especially her rhubarb pie).

Bernice was a very accomplished seamstress and quilter working with the Love Day Quilters at First Lutheran Church in Blair. While a resident at Shepherds Village, she sewed with the Stitching Angels making pillowcase dresses for children in need in Africa. The main focus of her entire life was her family. She loved attending her children and grandchildren’s events.

Bernice is survived by her children, Beth (Gerald) Timperley of Blair, Terry (Nancy) Zobel of Omaha, Mical (Sandy)Zobel of Blair and Julie (Miles) Jenkinson of Plainview; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister Carlene Bowen of Fremont; sisters-in-law Lorraine Nissen of Plainview and Eline Brosh of Norfolk; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn and brothers Willis and Lyle.
