AUSTIN -- Dorothy E. Gates, 79, of 1304 24th St. S.W., died Saturday (Oct. 9, 1993) at Charter House.
Born Dorothy Nordland on Sept. 8, 1914, in Freeborn County, she grew up around the Moscow, Minn., area. She graduated from the eighth grade at District 78 County School. On Nov. 26, 1930, she married Donald Gates in Moscow Township. The couple farmed until 1952 when the moved to Austin. Mrs. Gates worked as a homemaker as well as working for F.W. Woolworth Co. and and Ben Franklin stores. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons, Loren of Rochester, Dale of Garrison, Minn., and Darrell of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren; three brothers, Clifford Nordland and John Nordland, both of Albert Lea, and Floyd Nordland of Hamilton, Ohio; and a sister, Margaret Mittag of Hill City, S.D. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Don Deins officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Oakland, Minn.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
