Second Lieutenant Austin was the pilot of
B-25J Mitchell #43-27609, serving with the
330th Base Unit from Greenville Army Airfield,
South Carolina.

He was one of six airmen killed when the
twin engine bomber crashed, seven miles
north of Clayton, Georgia, during a
training flight.

The airmen who perished were:

2nd Lt. Calvin J Eaby
Cpl. Marvin L Barr
Cpl. Gerald E Doyle
Cpl. James K Peek
