Herbert Albert Dixon
Birth: 1902
Death: 1943

Negro Leagues Baseball Player. He was a star baseball player in the Negro Leagues from 1922 to the 1937, playing for teams in Harrisburg, Baltimore, Chicago, Darby, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, New York Cubans, Newark, Homestead and Washington. Rap Dixon's career spanned from 1922 to 1937. Although he could hit for power and average, it was his exceptional speed that made him a threat with the ability to steal on the base paths and to cover a wide range in the outfield. Barnstorming with the Pittsburg Crawfords, he played along side such greats and Hall of Famers as Satchel Paige, Oscar Charleston, Judy Johnson, Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell. He compiled a .343 lifetime batting average, and helped the Philadelphia Stars win the Negro National League Championship in 1934. In 26 games against white major leaguers he hit a hefty .372. (bio by: Gravin Image)
