Nicknamed "Yaller Bill", he was a utility player for for several baseball organizations beginning in 1875 with the Hartford Dark Blues of the National Association. The next year, that team became part of the newly established National League and he played with them until 1877. He continued on to the Chicago White Stockings, Troy Trojans, Philadelphia Quakers and completed his career with the Cincinnati Outlaw Reds of the Union Association. Throughout his career, he played a number of positions, one of which was as a catcher which made his experience unique as he was a left-handed thrower. (bio by: Robert)
