DIETRICH, Franz Joseph Longtime resident of the Antelope Valley Franz J. Dietrich passed away suddenly on February 14, 2006 at the age of 73. Born to Frank and Frieda Dietrich of Island Park, New York on September 29, 1932. A graduate of Long Island Agricultural and Technical Institute, he enlisted in the Armed Forces as an Airman in the United States Air Force completing his tour of duty with the rank of Master Sergeant. Honorably discharged in 1956 from Edwards Air Force Base, he married Willie-Lee Borden in December of that year. He and his bride made their home in Long Island, New York until he accepted a position at Edwards Air Force Base as an Airborne Avionics Flight Line Supervisor. During the next 40 years he held positions of Chief of Avionics Flight 412th Component Repair Squadron, 412th Test Wing, Air Force Flight Test Center Edwards Air Force, California. He also held the position of Crew Chief on the NB-52B, F-111, F-15, F-16, MUROC AAF, X-15 and WS-17 to name a few. Retiring from his position as Electronic Integrated Avionic Branch Supervisor ending a service career spanning 44 years. A long time member of the Elks Lodge in Lancaster, an elder at the Christ Church of the Valley and a volunteer with the California Highway Patrol; Frank enjoyed his retirement with his wife and family in the community of Quartz Hill, California. Frank was one in a billion, he touched so many with his infamous "Hey Babe" greeting, his devotion to his faith and his warm and generous ways. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of fifty years, Willie-Lee Dietrich, his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Skip Reed of Palmdale, Calif., and his son John Dietrich of Long Beach, Calif. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren Hayley and Tyler Reed and his surviving sister, Mrs. Elvera Feldman and husband Howard of Colorado Springs, Colorado. As well as, brothers-in-law, Walter McDonald and Lou Procops, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marlene McDonald and Martha Procops. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 from 4 to 8 p.m. with services on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Joshua Memorial Park Mortuary, Lancaster , California. A gathering of family and friends will be held a the home of dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Beverly Horwedel following the Wednesday service.
