Leaf River – Sandra Joyce Zellers, age 75, of Leaf River passed away peacefully Monday August 4, 2014 at Hospice Serenity House in Oregon, IL with her family by her side. She was born on November 8, 1938 the daughter of Howard Taft and Esther Viola (Cuplin) McKinley. She grew up in Leaf River where she went to public school and graduated from Leaf River High School Class of 1956. She married Larry Zellers son of Carl and Kathryn (Wolfe) Zellers on November 24, 1956 in Mt. Morris, IL. Sandra was briefly employed by Kable News in Mt. Morris but spent most of her life being an incredible homemaker. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Leaf River. She served on the Leaf River Fire District Women's Auxiliary and was a member of the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge #1551. Sandra was an avid bowler along with her family. She enjoyed her plants and flowers and loved spending time with her family, whom she loved very much. She is survived by her husband, Larry of Leaf River; sons, Danny E. (Joleen) Zellers and David L. (Denise) Zellers both of Leaf River; grandchildren, Chad (Nicolle), Kathryn (Shaun), Krysten, Amber, Nick (Delaina), and Katelyn; great grandchildren, Paul, Nathaniel, Quintin, Zander, Cameron, Aubree, Anya, Kaylea, Alexa, and Landyn; siblings, Connie (Richard) Kretsinger of Leaf River, Terry McKinley of Rockford, and David (Karen) McKinley of Leaf River; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sandra is predeceased by her parents, parents-in-law, and grandchildren Monica and David. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home, Byron, Illinois. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 from 5-7 PM at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Byron. A luncheon will follow at River Valley Complex, 605 N. Main St. in Leaf River. A memorial is established in her name.
