Death of John Scott
John Scott died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Swetland in Cuba, May 9th. Mr. Scott was born at Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York, December 18, 1809. On August 4, 1828, he was united in marriage with Betsey Carpenter at Cumberland, New York. Mrs. Scott died May 2, 1890.
For the past six years the deceased has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Swetland in this village. Eight children survive him, namely, Mrs. Floyd Cole and Mrs. Oliver Swetland of Cuba, Isaac and John Scott of Rushford, Milton Scott of Marshall, Henry Scott of Bath, Indiana Mrs. John Coon of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Joseph Scott of Florida.
Brief funeral services were held at Mr. Scott’s late home Tuesday morning at nine o’clock, and the remains were taken to Belfast for burial.
Deceased was an honored member of the Grand Army of the Republic, and the members of the S. T. Bartle Post attended the funeral in a body. – Cuba Post
