Ronald Dean Herd, 80, of Scribner passed away July 28, 2014, at his home.
Ron was born May 17, 1934, to Myrtle and Ralph Herd in St. Joseph, Mo. He grew up on a family farm in St. Joseph. After high school he join the U.S. Army where he served his country proudly. After returning home in 1959 from the service he began driving semi-truck and continued until his retirement in 2000.
Ron married Geraldine Hanson Riggle on Dec. 29, 1978 in Rockport, Mo. He helped her raise her five children as if they were his own. He was a member of the Local 554 Teamsters Union. In 1989 he and Geraldine move to the rural Scribner area and enjoyed the country living. Ron enjoyed taking care of his farm animals as if they were all his pets. He spent many weekends fishing at Dead Timber Recreation Area with his family. One of his favorite pastimes was to play his guitar. Ron always had a dog by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; daughters, Lora and husband, Herb, Stahl of Blair, Kris and husband, Mark, Hadden of Mead, Sandy and husband, Jeff, of Prague; son, Joe and wife, Tara, of Hooper; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Russell; and his daughter, JoAnn Robinson.
The grave side service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend. Military honors will be conducted by the local VFW.
