Calvin was a farmer and a carpenter, born June, 1815 in New York State.

In 1844, he married a girl from Vermont, named Sylvia. They were blessed with 4 children, all born in New York state.

By 1860, however, the Manns moved to Concord township, in Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
The 1860 US Census lists:

Sylvia Mann, 40, wife, b. VT
Lorenzo Mann, 12, son, b. NY
Theodore Mann,11, son, b. NY
Mary J Mann, 9, dau, b. NY
Laura A Mann, 6, dau, b. NY
Mary Loriensky,15, b. Bohemia
John Finkley, 23, b. NY, farmer

In 1870, the Manns were living in St. John township, Harrison County, Iowa. Their nearest post office was in Missouri Valley.
The 1870 US Census lists:
Calvin Mann, 55, head, carpenter and joiner
Sylvia Mann, 50, wife
Mary Mann, 18, teaching school
Laura Mann, 16, at school
Lorenzo Mann, 23, day laborer

In 1880, their children gone from home, Calvin and Sylvia moved across the Missouri River to Blair, Nebraska, where Calvin worked as a carpenter. They lived in town, on Colfax street.

Time passed. In 1900, Calvin and Sylvia had moved to Logan, Iowa, where they made their home with their daughter, Laura, and her husband, Almor Stern.
The 1900 US Census lists:

Fred W. Stern, 18, son, b. IA day laborer
Cyrus A.Stern, 16, son, b. IA at school

After 57 years of marriage, Calvin and Sylvia passed away within a week of each other, and were buried in Missouri Valley.

Mr. Calvin Mann died in Logan, Ia. Last Monday, just five days after the death of his wife and of which event he knew nothing. Mrs. Mann was eighty-one and he was eighty-six years of age and they had lived together for over fifty-seven years. They are now resting side by side in the cemetery at Mo. Valley, Ia.

The death of Calvin Mann of Logan, Iowa, occurred last Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Almor Stearn, only five days after the death of his wife. Mr. Mann and family were residents of this city for twenty years, moving here in 1895 and settling in Logan. Deceased was 85 years of age at the time of his death. The grief-stricken family have the heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends in this city.
