Hart, was kidnapped on November 9, 1933 while on his way home. A $40,000.00 ransom call was received by his sister Aleese at their home that evening. John M. Holmes and Thomas H. Thurmond were arrested for the kidnapping and murder. They had killed him within an hour of after the abduction when he was dumped into the San Francisco Bay from the San Mateo Bridge after they robbed him, hit him with a brick, wrapped him in wire and weighted down the body with concrete. Both Thurmond and Holmes were taken by a mob at midnight on November 27, 1933, and lynched for the kidnapping and killing of Hart. The body of Brooke L. Hart was recovered near the San Mateo Bridge on November 26, 1933. In 1936, Metro Goldwyn Mayer released "Fury" starring Spencer Tracy, the script was based on these terrible events at San Jose three years earlier. The film received an Oscar nomination for Best Story. Husband of Anntoinette "Nettie" E.
