"HITCHNER of Hopewell Township, N.J. on Wednesday, June 24, 1998. Franklin W. Hitchner, age 82 years, husband of Mollie Simkins Hitchner, brother of Herbert Hitchner, Doris DeMatte and Phyllis Cramer and also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Private graveside funeral services will be held for family members on Monday, June 29, 1998 at Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton, N.J. The interment will follow the services. At the family's request there will be no public viewing. Memorial Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Shriner's Hospital, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19140. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 West Commerce Street, Bridgeton."

"Franklin W. Hitchner, 82, of Hopewell Township died Wednesday in South Jersey Hospital -- Bridgeton.

Born in Hopewell, son of the late Franklin S. and Ida Elwell Hitchner, he was a 1934 graduate of Bridgeton High School. He served in the Army during World War II, seeing duty in Iceland, England, and France.

He had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years, and was later a rural carrier in the Fairton area.

He was a member of Evening Star Lodge Free and Accepted Masons and a past master of the lodge. He was also a member of the Cumberland County Shrine Club and Crescent Temple of Trenton, a member and deacon of the Pearl Street Baptist Church, and member and past commander of Shoemaker Post 95 American Legion. He was a member of the New Jersey Rural Carriers, enjoyed music, and was a violinist.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Mollie (nee Simpkins); a brother, Herbert, of Hopewell, and two sisters, Doris Dematte of Vineland and Phyllis Cramer of California.

The Rev. Ronald C. Dixon will officiate at private gravesite services Monday in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton. Contributions can be sent to the Shriner's Hospital, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19140. Arrangements are by the Freitag Funeral Home, Bridgeton."
