Carl Radford Whitley was born on August 7, 1885 in Macon County, Tennessee, the son of Jefferson Cannon Whitley (1838–1925) and Elizabeth "Ann" (Slate) Whitley (1847–1936).
He was married on April 1, 1906 in Macon County to Lera Copas (1885–1966), and she was the daughter of John Wesley "Whispering John" Copas (1854–1945) and his wife Tabitha Franklin "Frankie" (Vandover) Copas (1863–1941).
A cabinet maker and resident of 1330 Pennack Avenue, Nashville, he was 57 years old and the husband of Lera when he committed suicide, shooting himself at home on March 4, 1943. Burial was two days later in Woodlawn Cemetery. [Although it is not yet known for sure, it is suspected that he is buried next to his wife Lena, and that would be in the cemetery's Garden of Evergreen, Lot 90, Space 1: Lena is in Space 2.]
Much of the above is from his Death Certificate, with C E Whitley of 908 West Greenwood Avenue as the informant.
Known child of Carl and Lera:
~ Carl Edward Whitley (1915–1990)
