She was born Gertrude Alice Moran to Michael and Alice Goldthorp Moran. On September 19, 1932, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary at Marymount in Tarrytown, NY, where she made her first vows on August 24, 1934. She also made her final vows at Marymount in Tarrytown on August 27, 1939. Sister des Victoires taught at Marymount School of New York from 1934 to 1942. In 1942 she was assigned to Marymount School in Tarrytown, NY, where she taught at both the Junior School and the Secondary School. A speech and drama teacher, she was directed countless students in the Marymount School plays and operettas. She was the sacristan at Butler Memorial Chapel at Marymount. She worked with the postulants and novices at St. Joseph’s Novitiate in Tarrytown, training them in the care of the chapel and the altar. A talented gardener, she spent many hours working in the green house and flower beds that produced many of the flowers that decorated the chapel.
