John T. (Jack) Driscoll was the son of John and Mary Theresa [Robinson] Driscoll. His father immigrated from County Kerry, Ireland at one year of age and in his manhood owned a meat business in Portland, Oregon and was on the Legislature there. John T. attended University of Notre Dame (South Bend, IN) and George Washington College (Georgetown, VA) and then attended Catholic U Law School in Wash., D.C., where he was captain of the varsity track team.
Excerpt from the Catholic U Student Magazine (1918):
"John Timothy Driscoll, LL.B. Portland, Ore.,
'Jack' 'Drisc' 'Johnny' 'Cap'
Varsity Track Team, 1915 and 1916, Captain 1917 - If one wished to exemplify definitions of energy, all-around ability and clear thinking, he would need to seek no further than Jack Driscoll. Coming as he does from the land of 'free light' and 'fresh air' beyond the prairies, he brought with him an abundant store of vigorous initiative, and whether it be a stellar exhibition of athletic prowess on the cinder-path, a lyric or sonnet from his facile pen, or making a social gathering more enjoyable by his presence, John excels in each. Following the lure of knowledge to its limits, though the quest led him across continents, 'Drisc' entered our midst evincing a burning desire to become a 'budding Blackstone.' If prominence in collegiate activities, whether it is editing his class Annual, captaining a college-team, or championing the cause of his fellow-students, augurs much for his future success, we will prophesy no less than that he shall some day be one of Oregon's most honored sons."
In 1920, John T. married Mary Bernardine Kane in Portland, Oregon and began working as an assistant district attorney of Multnomah County. In 1923, he moved with his wife and two young sons to Los Angeles, CA. A third son was born in 1926 and two years later John T. died from bacterial endocarditis, an infection which today is easily cured with antibiotics.
