Birth: Sep. 12, 1848
Marion County
Tennessee, USA
Death: Dec. 1, 1909
Freestone County
Texas, USA

NOTE: His date of birth is shrouded in mystery; other sources indicate he was born Sept. 17, 1848; Sept. 12, 1843 (unlikely); or Dec. 12, 1848.

His parents were William Gilliam (1825-1864?) and Sarah (Beene) Gilliam (1831-1870). He was born in Tennessee but moved to Arkansas and then Texas after the Civil War. He married Frances Ann Beene in 1868. In the 1900 census, Frances is listed as being the mother of 9 children, 4 who were still alive at the time. These are the children I know of:

Sallie (d. circa 1870 at age four),
William (birth and death dates unknown)
Benjamin Case (1875-1949)
Ida Bell(e) (1878-1918)
Prudence "Prudie" Mae (1878-1960)
Joe (1881-1969).

(Ida and Prudence were twins.)
