Eleanor was born on June 12, 1943 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eleanor was the eldest sister of five and had one older brother. Eleanor grew up in Martínez Town and attended St. Mary's Catholic School.
After graduation in 1962, Eleanor attended Albuquerque Beauty College and enjoyed a 46 year career as a beautician. Eleanor followed in the footsteps of her father who was a barber. Eleanor was also a master seamstress and always made sure she looked her best. In 2009, Eleanor started the biggest battle of her life with cancer. Eleanor never let her illness stop her and always accepted the good and the bad with the utmost dignity and bravery. Eleanor loved going to the casino, long reminiscing talks with family and friends and being with her daughter and son-in-law.
Eleanor was preceded in death by husband, Jerome Griego, brother, Henry Martínez, her sister, Yolanda Alderete and parents, Lucy and Saloman Martínez.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Joanna Gallegos and her husband, Victor, sisters, Lorraine Gómez and life partner, Pat Cervantes, Lillian Saavedra and Julie Martínez.
Eleanor was much loved and will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
All services will be held at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, beginning with recitation of the Rosary on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
