Ludwig Heinrich "L. H." Stern, also known as Löwe, born in Albersweiler, Germany, died on 3 September 1867 at New Orleans, Louisiana, aged forty-five years. (His age at death suggests an approximate birth date of 1821–22, while his 1860 U.S. census record [Adams County, Mississippi], suggests a slightly later birth date: 1822–23.)

His wife, Sybilla (Schatz) Stern, and seven children survived him: Henry, George, Dagobert (also known as David), Johanna (also known as Hannah), Maximilian "Max," Eugene, and Solomon.

Services on Wednesday, 4 September 1867, were followed by interment at Hebrew Rest Cemetery in New Orleans.

Note: Mr. Stern's middle name, Heinrich, appears on several of his children's birth records. His alternate name, Löwe, likely his Hebrew name, appears on one of his children's birth records.
