|Birth: ||Aug. 20, 1938|

Elmer L. Hodge was the son of Elmer M. and Emma Hodge. He married Marilyn Smith and they had children. Elmer was a member of the Owosso Fire Department. When the wall of the burning Gittleman's Department Store collapsed, bricks from the wall struck Fireman Hodge, killing him. As of July 2014, he was the second and last Owosso firefighter to give his life in the line of duty. The city is currently in the process of developing a memorial for Elmer L. Hodge and Fred Ross, the first Owosso firefighter who died in the line of duty in 1900.
Because of his duty death his name is inscribed on the Michigan Fallen Heroes Memorial Monument, Stone 6, Row 21. The monument is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of County Center Drive East (north entrance) and N. Telegraph Rd., on Oakland County's complex at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac. The memorial has a website on the internet.
