Daughter of John Catlett and Mary Grayson. Married John Bowie, in 1745, he the youngest of two brothers who emigrated from Scotland about 1742, a Planter in Caroline County. There were seven children born to the marriage, all at the family plantation, "The Hill" - near Port Royal, Caroline County, Virginia.
A sister of John Catlett is said to have been the grandmother of President James Madison. Judith was buried by the side of her husband in the family graveyard at "The Hill." Settlement of the estate shows it to have been large, consisting of several extensive tracts of land, more than forty slaves, much stock, money in bonds, silverware, etc.
