Mrs. Sarah Ellen Bailey, 86, Has 58 Living Direct Descendants
Mrs. Sarah Ellen Bailey, 86, Mapleton's oldest citizen who is survived by fifty-eight direct descendants, died at her home in that place Wednesday evening, February 19, 1941, at 9 o'clock, death being the result of injuries that she received in a fall at home almost five weeks ago. "Grandmother" Bailey, familiarly and affectionately known to all, was born April 15, 1854, hence was aged 86 years, 10 months and 4 days. Her husband Edwin E. Bailey preceded her in death 37 years ago. She was a daughter of Samuel and Mary J. (McMullen) Briggs. She attended the Methodist Church of Mapleton and was a member of the Ladies Bible Class in the Sunday school. (Continued on Page Five) Surviving are two daughters and one son, Nora, wife of C. H. Dell; Cora, wife of William Wharton and Charles Bailey, all of Mapleton. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. The body will be brough from Green's funeral home in Three Springs to the Mapleton Methodist church at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Funeral services will be held in the Methodist Church at Mapleton, Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, at 2 o'clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. C.B. Littleton. Interment in the United Brethren cemetery at Mapleton directed by Green's funeral service.
