Death: Jul. 30, 1894

Author. He was born in Shadwell, England. He became interested in literature, beginning to write articles and criticisms. His essays on Leonardo da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Pico della Mirandola, and Michelangelo, were collected in his "Studies in the History of the Renaissance" in 1873. But, his more important book, "Marius the Epicurean" was published in 1885. There, he reflected his ideal of the aesthetic life and his cult of beauty.
