Mrs. Backus was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Roebuck and was born and reared in Van Wert. Her husband, whom she married October 11, 1899, was for years superintendent of the Cincinnati Northern Railroad. His death occurred November 21, 1919.
She was an active member of the First Methodist Church, a member of the Liberal Arts Club and was affiliated with Van Wert Chapter No. 48, Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are a brother, Thomas B. Roebuck of Detroit, Mich.; two nieces, Mrs. Charles B. Collier of Ravenna, O., and Mrs. George W. Eckert of Lima, and a nephew, Paul V. Chivington of Indianapolis.
Funeral services in charge of the Gamble & Alspach Funeral Home will be held Wednesday at 11 A.M., at the residence, with Rev. Kenneth S. Learey of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. Friends may call at the residence."
