Married Stanley Benaire Clark 24 Feb 1942 in Vancouver, Washington.

Clark, Barbara Louise
93, of Santa Ana CA and Mesa, AZ, went home to be with Jesus on November 1, 2008. Born in Los Angeles, CA, on July 4, 1915 to Howard Leslie and Alta Mae Crews, she lived there until her marriage in 1941.

She received her degrees in education at Los Angeles City College, Occidental College and Chapman College.

Before settling in Orange County, CA, she was a military wife traveling around the country with her Marine Corp pilot husband.

She was a teacher for 35 + years with the Orange Unified School District with varied responsiblilties of physical education, dance, pep squad, counseling and work experience.

She loved the out-of-doors especially the beach; taught swimming for many years; was program director for womens activities at LA YWCA; was a national swimming record holder both in her early years and as a senior; swam in Billy Roses' Aquacade with Esther Williams; organized and hosted USO dances for the YWCA during the war years;

She had a great zest for life, worked summers at Disneyland during her teaching years, sang in church choirs, helped at vacation Bible school and other church endeavors.

She loved to go camping with her grandchildren, spending many vacations in the California mountains or taking them to Balboa, Catalina Island, or Newport Beach for water activities.

She paddled around on her long surfboard years before surfing became popular.

She participated with her daughters in Masters Swimming and Senior Olympics well into her eighties.

Barbara was fortunate to have lived independently until her last 5 years. Many thanks to staff of Villa Ocotillo for their tender compassion and care this last year, especially Patand Paula, Marie and Debbie, Bev, Erica, Rebekah, Roberto, Rosa, and Jonathan.

She is survived by daughter (Phyllis) Dale Liggett and daughter Marilyn Clark , son Milton Clark; grandson Brian (Leanne) Liggett, granddaughter Suzanne (Paul) Wagner, grandson Don (Jenny) Stringham, granddaughter Brianna Clark; great-grandson Hunter Liggett, great-grandson Joshua Wagner; great-grandchildren Emma, Russell, Lizzie and Jack Stringham; numerous nieces and friends.

Memorial services held at Grace Community Church, Lamb Chapel, 1200 East Southern Avenue, Tempe, AZ 85282 on Nov. 15th at 11 AM and her home church Salem Lutheran Church on Nov 29th at 2 PM. In lieu offlowers, contributions can be made in the memory of Barbara L. Clark to the Salem Lutheran Church sanctuary fund, 6500 E. Santiago Canyon Road, Orange, CA 92869. Interment will be at Forest Lawn, Los Angeles, CA.
