Norah Belle MAHAN married William Eads CHISUM on 23 Aug 1888 in McKinney, Collin County, Texas. He was the son of William Elijah Chisum and Olivia Elizabeth Collier. Norah and William had 11 children. Norah was about 5' tall and weighed about 90 pounds. She had a fiery temper and dipped snuff from a can she carried in her pocket. One day she got angry at the way one of her sons-in-law was treating his children; she picked up an iron skillet and told him that he'd better change his ways, or she'd use it on him! -- He changed his ways. :)
Norah died of "inanition"--exhaustion caused by starvation, exascerbated by senile debility and severe arteriosclerosis.
She was a wonderful lady. When she wasn't working, she was always reading her Bible while rocking in her favorite rocking chair. She loved her children and grandchildren, and she was generous beyond her means--she would give away money that she needed for groceries for herself to someone else whom she thought had a greater need or she loved more than herself.
