Galen J. Lines, age 97 of Brooklyn, formerly of Marble Rock, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Galen is survived by his wife Lucile; twin daughters, Lorraine Nelson (Mike) and LaRay Keiser (Mike), all of Brooklyn; 6 grandchildren, Wade (Brandy) Wiedemeier of Marion, Dawn (Jason) Snook of Montezuma, Jennifer (Matt) Johannes of Brooklyn, Michelle (Brad) Graham of Brooklyn, Bryan (Terri) Carlson of Newcastle, PA, and Kimberly (Mike) Kemp of Las Vegas, NV; 14 great- grandchildren, Tara Nowotny, Mike Wiedemeier, Mika Wiedemeier, Paige Snook, Tailor Snook, Jaicee Snook, Kayla Johannes, Jacob Johannes, Michaela Carlson, Andrew Carlson, Mykenzie Davies, J.J. Paglia, Bradly Graham, and Jordan Graham; and two great-great grandchildren, A'laia Jones and Chance Nowotny. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.
Galen Jewel Lines was born May 22, 1917 in Marble Rock, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Lyla Lossee Lines. He graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1934 and married Lucile Eleanor Ahart on August 27, 1938 in Marble Rock. Galen served in the U.S. Army as a medic from 1941-44, stationed in Europe. Upon his return, Galen operated a Mobile gas station and was a bus driver for 17 years. He then was manager at Farmland Industries Coop in Belle Plaine for over 30 years. Galen was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion, and the Lions Club in Horseshoe Bend, AR. He enjoyed woodworking and macrame'.
