Harry Christian Ohrt, who most recently resided at 1372 Wilbur Street in Blair, was born in Bennington on April 24, 1907 to Fred Ohrt and Anna Fedde Ohrt.

He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church of Bennington, where he confirmed his faith in the Rite of Confirmation in 1923.

Harry’s formal education was within the Bennington School System, being completed at Midland Business College.

On March 8, 1933, he and Frieda Corstensen were united in marriage at St. John’s, a union blessed with a child and many years of happiness as a family.

The Ohrt family farmed for thirty years. Harry distinguished himself in his service to his family, church and community. He was a board member of Farmers’ Union of Bennington and of the Kennard Fire Department, which he helped organize.

As a member of St. John’s, he served on the council and building committee. From 1933 – 1972, he was a member of the Board of Directors, and manager of the South Omaha Production Credit Association. He was a long time member of the Farm Bureau and the Washington County Feeders Association, a treasurer of the Washington County Mutual Insurance Company (35 years), a sustaining member of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the State Wide Arboretum, current president of the Blair Park Board, and secretary of the Lion’s Club for eight years.

Harry and Frieda became members of First Lutheran, where he has served on the church council.

This past Sunday morning, November 17, Harry died at Crowell Memorial Home. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife and daughter, Marcia Luschen of Fremont, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Margaret Poulson of Omaha; three brothers, Lawrence of Corning, Iowa, Leonard of Omaha, and Don of Peoria, Illinois; as well as many other relatives and friends.
