WATERVILLE - Robert M. Winship passed to a better place Monday, June 16, 2014. He was born May 1, 1918, in Jackson, the son of Floyd E. and Laila (Walton) Winship. He graduated from Unity High School in 1935.

He worked for Ken Tozier plowing snow for the town of Unity and later worked for the state of Maine Department of Transportation paving roads and plowing snow. After he retired, he volunteered several years at the Unity Area Regional Recycling Center.

He was a member of the Knox Ridge Baptist Church and had served as deacon and trustee. He loved being the greeter and shaking hands with young and old for many years.

He looked forward each month to the Open Door Community Meals. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, his Kubota tractor and the Red Sox. He still had a keen shooting eye at 94 when he shot his last woodchuck. He liked picking high bush blueberries while sitting in a chair.

His wife of 67 years, Esther (Erskine) Winship, passed away in 2005. He was also predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Williamson; brothers Hershell and Harold; and granddaughter Rachel (Winship) Turcotte.

He is survived by his children, Barbara and Ed Hall, Beverly Winship, Floyd and Fannie-Lynn Winship, Raymond and Connie Winship, Jolene and Morris Berry and Tammy and Wayne Dowdy; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Mount St. Joseph for the loving care they gave him during the last few months.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Child Evangelism Fellowship, Attention Jon Dowdy, P.O.
