GILMER - Hazel Laverne Henry, 89, formerly of Little Mound Community and Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Johnson and the Rev. Dicky Mauk officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery.

Hazel was born May 31, 1916, in Little Mound, formerly Old Calloway Community, in Western Upshur County to Thomas Franklin and Georgia Ann Langford, and was the last of 11 children born to Tom and Georgia. She was married to Cleo Clinton Henry in 1934. They moved to the Panhandle of Texas in the late 1940s and raised their two children in Amarillo, then retired to Little Mound.

Hazel was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo and Little Mound Missionary Baptist Church. She worked in the Amarillo school system cafeterias; she was a "world-class" mother, cook and homemaker. She had an iron will and a steel constitution and was an example worthy of emulation.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gracie Nell and Gene Minter of Little Mound; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Bert and Paula Henry of Tyler; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was born the daughter of Thomas Franklin Langford (1867 – 1963) and Georgia Ann Bouknight (1873 – 1968) and married on 8 July 1934 to Cleo Clinton Henry (1912 – 1995) and their children were Gracie Nell Henry (1939 – ) and Donald Bert Henry (1945 – ). After retirement to Gilmer The Henry's were very active in the Gilmer Church of the Nazarene.
