Maxine Lee
Birth: May 30, 2011
Death: Jun. 16, 2014

Maxine was a CKC Rat Terrier. She was part of Max and Ruby's "oops" litter, born right here in my laundry room. She was the middle pup in age and size. Maxine had a very distinct personality. She loved to chew on things when she was left alone, especially my flip-flops. She was the smartest of the bunch.
I got her and Little Girl spayed on 6/2/2014 at the low cost clinic. Apparently, the conditions were not very sanitary and they contracted Parvo. Little Girl became sick on 6/9/2014 and had to stay at the hospital but the vet said Maxine was fine. I got her vaccines. The next day, she stopped eating. I called the vet, she said it was from the shots. On Wednesday, I took her back to the vet who again said she was fine. She was given another vaccine and heart worm meds. The next morning she began vomiting. She was tested for Parvo and was negative. They said she was probably stressed. On Friday, I again spoke with the vet, who told me to give her some Pepcid for the vomiting. That night I took her to the ER vet who told me that she was having a reaction to the vaccines. They gave her fluids and anti-nausea and sent her home. Saturday morning, I called the regular vet's office and spoke with a different vet who told me to bring her on in. By this time she had not eaten anything since Wednesday and was shaking. He also thought it was a reaction to the vaccines and wanted to keep her over the weekend to give her steroids and Benadryl. I left my baby there because I could not help her. I told her I was coming to get her Monday morning. The vet called Sunday night and said she was doing really bad and had tested positive for Parvo. He told me she was really thin and was having diarrhea. He said he had never seen a case of Parvo in a 3 year old dog. He said there was still a chance of recovery.
Monday morning, I got a call right after they opened. He said that when he re-checked her last night, she was more alert and this morning, he was about to begin treatment when she took a deep breath and died. My poor baby. I never even got to say goodbye. She probably thought I had abandoned her. I did everything I could. I spent over $2000 on vet bills in 2 weeks. Luckily, Little Girl, who was less than half of Maxine's size managed to pull through against all odds and came home as I was picking up Maxine's body. I buried her in my pet cemetery in the yard with Mojo and her father Max. They were the three best dogs I ever had. I feel so bad. I told her just the other day that she would always be my Baby Girl.
