Located in Comfort, Texas is this memorial to 68 local men who died while on their way to Mexico in 1862. The plan was to go to Mexico and then take a water route to the north and join the Union Army. The men took a very leisurely pace and were caught on the banks of the Nueces by local confederate solders. There is some contradiction weather this was a battle or a massacre. Their remains were brought here later by their friends. This is the only Union Memorial south of the Mason Dixon line. The flag is always at half staff here.
