Rites Held Monday For A Well Known Akron Farmer
The final summons came last Thursday, May 5, to William H. Popken, a well-known and respected farmer residing east of Akron, at the Hawarden Hospital, after in illness of three months, aged 51 years, 9 months and 13 days.
Mr. Popken was born July 22, 1914, at Le Mars., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto J.F. Popken. The family resided on a farm northeast of Akron, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Regina Thomas in Akron, January 30, 1946, and they have since resided in the community. Two sons and two daughters came to bless their union.
Left to mourn his departure are his wife; two sons, Thomas and Robert; two daughters, Barbara and Betty, all at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Alvin Sommervold and Mrs. Roland Rohlfs, both of Akron, and Mrs. Gordon Swensen, of Sioux City. They have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
Funeral services were held Monday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. J.F. Schissel officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
