MONMOUTH ó Blake Moranville, 77, died Tuesday.
He was born in Guide Rock, Neb., and attended Hastings College before joining the Navy in 1942. He was a fighter pilot during World War II. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, several air medals and was shot down and imprisoned in Indochina for two months. He retired from the Navy in 1964 and moved to Monmouth. He earned bachelorís and masterís degrees in education and joined the faculty of Oregon College of Education. He retired as dean of students in 1985. He enjoyed golf, woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, whom he married in 1946; sons, Michael of Muscat, Oman, and Mark of New Orleans; brothers, Ken of Guide Rock, and Ron of Trophy Club, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Rice Auditorium at Western Oregon University. Private interment with military honors will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements are by Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
