Hon. Stanley Woodward, Additional Law Judge of Luzerne county, Pennsylvania, was born in Wilkes-Barre in 1833. Son of a former Chief Justice of Pennsylvania. Educated at the Episcopal High School and Wyoming Seminary, graduating with honor from Yale College in 1855. Studied law with the Hon. Warren J. Woodward, of New Haven, Connecticut ; admitted to the Luzerne Bar in 1S56. Was counsel for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, Delaware and Hudson Canal Company, and Central Railroad of New Jersey. Served in the War of the Rebellion and commanded a company. Was appointed Additional Law Judge of Luzerne county in 1879; elected in 1880 for a term of ten years, and re-elected in 1890 for a further term for the same period.
