US Congressman. Elected to represent North Carolina's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1883 to 1887, and 1889 to 1891. He also served as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from North Carolina in 1876, and as a Member of the North Carolina State Legislature.
