Philip C. Beam, 95, Henry Johnson Professor of Art and Archaeology Emeritus at Bowdoin College and a leading authority on the life and works of Winslow Homer, died December 25, 2005 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, ME. He had been a resident of Lewiston since January, 2005. Philip was born October 7, 1910 in Dallas, TX, the son of Millard Fillmore Beam and Georgia Betty Avera Beam. He was awarded A.B., A.M., and PH.D. degrees at Harvard University and received the Certificate of the Courtauld Institute from the University of London.

Profrssor Beam is survived by his wife of 66 years the former Frances Merriman of Topsham, son, Christopher Beam and wife, Joline of Lewiston, daughter, Rebecca Beam of Exeter, HN and grandsons: David Beam and wife, Clare of Arlington, VA, Michael Beam of Somerville, MA and Gregory Beam of Chicago, IL. Philip was preceeded in death by his brother, Avera Grady Beam.
