Obituary, St Augustine Record, January 20, 2013 Francis John "Frank" Taylor Jr., age 96, died Jan. 16, 2013, in St. Augustine, Florida. Frank was born to Berta Johns Hopkins Taylor and Francis John Taylor, Sr. in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up in the Chesapeake Bay area. He graduated in 1938 from Johns Hopkins University, School of Engineering, the university having been founded by his family. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 6, 1941. After intensive electronics courses at MIT he was assigned to train officers of all branches of the armed forces in the use of radar. He retired from the Navy Reserves after attaining the rank of commander. After WWII, he returned to civilian life as an engineer at Bendix Corporation and Black & Veatch Corporation. A longtime resident of Leawood, Kansas, and Lawrence, Kansas, he moved to St. Augustine in 2009. He was preceded in death by Eileen Abeln Taylor, his wife of 65 years. He is survived by four daughters: Susan Johnston and Jean Volz both of St. Augustine; Mary Lou Taylor of Boise, Idaho; Nancy Flavin of Lawrence, Kansas; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren Private services with military honors and internment will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas at a later date.
