From the Scott County Argus of Sept. 8, 1916: "The remains of Harrison Allen, a former resident of this city, were brought here Wednesday for burial. Mr. Allen died suddenly Monday morning, Sept. 4th, at Hastings, Minn. He was the eldest son of J. B. Allen, a pioneer resident of Shakopee, and brother to Mrs. Abner Riggs, James and Alfred Allen and Mrs. P.L. Uttley, the latter being the only surviving member of the family.
Mr. Allen was a veteran of the Civil War having served thruout it. For three years he was corporal of Co. I 9th Minn. and later was made 1st lieutenant of Co. L. heavy artillery [of which his brother James was captain]. He participated in many battles, among them being Gettysburg. During his service he suffered a severe sunstroke followed by a long illness which left him an invalid for the remainder of his life.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Valley cemetery. Relatives who came from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. P.L. Uttley of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Allen of White Bear, and J.F. Weiser of Sioux City."
