Viola Taulbee Rose, 99, died peacefully Thursday, November 15, 2007 at
Clark County Hospital.
A resident of Wolfe County since birth, she entered this world July 26,
1908, near Campton, KY, the middle child of seven children Alexander Jackson
Taulbee and Nancy E. Faulkner Taulbee.
In addition to her parents, six siblings and son-in-law, she was
preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Ernest Rose.
She is survived by her children, Bess Miller and husband Cecil of
Trenton, Ohio; Walter C. Rose and wife Marcia of Carlisle, Ohio; Norma R.
Profitt of Campton; Wendell L. Rose and wife Shirley of Campton; three
sisters-in-law. Mazie Rose Ratliff of Trent, Golden Rose and Peggy Rose,
both of Campton. In addition see is survived by 8 grandchildren, 8
great-grandchildren, and 11 g-g-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces
and nephews and other relatives to mourn her passing.
The defining moment of her life occurred as a young girl of 14 when she
knelt in the sawdust before a altar at an out door camp meeting near her home
and accepted Christ as her Savior. She lived as she believed: "Jesus first,
others next, yourself last."
She was active in church throughout her life singing, teaching and
serving others in any manner the Lord directed. She taught Sunday School,
actively participating with other ladies in church "quiltings" and was a
member of the First Church of God "Willing Workers. She was blessed with a
wonderful soprano voice and, with her husband and children, often sang at
revivals, in the church choir, and other church services.
After graduating from Campton High School in 1929, she taught school at
the Rocky Branch and Callaboose one-roomed schools for three years. She
married on February 20, 1931 and from then on was a homemaker in the truest
sense of the word.
As a child and during high school, she had committed to memory several
poems which she would recite in order to make a point in conversation or
simply for the enjoyment the work brought to her and others. She never lost
her passion for learning and kept a notebook of quotes and sayings that struck
her as important lessons to reflect upon. She blessed the lives of all who
came in contact with her and her influence will continue to do so for
generations to come.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, at
Campton First Church of God with Bro. Walter Strong, Bro. Doyle Thomas, and
Bro. David Neace officiating. Burial was in the Spencer Cemetery at
Quillens Chapel community with funeral arrangements under the care of Porter
and Son Funeral Directors of Campton, KY.
