She has left her family with a beautiful legacy of dignity and strength, as she passed away late Saturday evening in Mifflin Care Center. She was 92.
Born Betty Ileen Dill December 1, 1921 in Washington Township, Richland County to Ira W. and Winona F. (Schindler) Dill, Betty attended Lexington Schools all 12 years - with perfect attendance - and was graduated in 1939. (She will be honored posthumously at the Lexington Alumni Banquet June 13)
Betty was raised in the Lexington Church of Christ, and embraced music at an early age. As a church musician she accompanied worship in the Church of Christ (and played for countless weddings in Lexington), Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Stone Lutheran Church.
Betty loved to be on the go: whether a simple car ride for a day trip to visit a relative or a bigger adventure, Betty was ready. Some of her favorite destinations included New Mexico, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, the Canadians Rockies and any place that included some family!
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Women's Christian Connection, and never turned down an opportunity to play bridge.
The family she has greatly influenced, not just in word, but by example, include her sons David McCammon and Donn (Brenda) McCammon all of Lexington and Ted (Mary Clare) McCammon of Fairfield; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Cheryl McCammon of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister Sue Pelasky of Lexington and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Lynn "Bud" McCammon on September 24, 1992. Also deceased are her sons Tom McCammon, Terry McCammon; daughter-in-law Edith McCammon; brother Trent (Evelyn) Dill; sister Bonnie Dill; and brother-in-law Edmond Pelasky.
The McCammon family will receive friends Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. The Rev's. Richard Beal and Marilou Brook will officiate. Interment will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Contributions to the Terry McCammon Memorial Scholarship Fund at Lexington High School may be made at the funeral home.
