Bertha "Betty" Laura Brandt, age 94, of Linn, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her family. Betty was born February 14, 1920, in Frankenstein, a daughter to the late J. Gus and Nellie (Haslag) Kremer. On June 18, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Anton "Tony" Brandt at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Frankenstein. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2007. Betty was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Genuinely caring for all life, Betty was always quick to lend a healing hand to a calf, piglet and even the occasional injured cat, nourishing a sickly animal to health with the love only a mother could provide. Equally caring in the garden, Betty loved to spend time tending to a beautiful array of flowers, vegetables, and fruits especially strawberries. Spending time with family was always a favorite activity for Betty and she was always happy to take the time to play games, bake cakes and cookies, read books, sew quilts, and so much more with any of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her beautiful smile and gentle spirit will be missed by all those who knew her. Betty is survived by her seven children: Sr. Linda Brandt, SSND, Betty Ann Peters (Ronnie), Shirley Adams (Randy), Donnie Brandt, Danny Brandt (Karen Prater), all of Linn and Joanie Sadler (Thomas Davis) and Diane Armistead (Jay), both of Jefferson City; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her spouse and parents, Betty was preceded in death by one brother and eight sisters. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Morton Chapel in Linn with a Rosary Service at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Fr. John Schmitz and Fr. I.C. Medina as co-celebrants. Interment will follow in the St. George Parish Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice Compassus, St. George Catholic Church or The American Heart Association.
