After the Death of Henry's Wife:
When his wife died Henry left VanBuran with his wife's parents. Van Buren traced down his dad years later. Then Vanburan changed his last name from Farrow to Farrar like his dads.
Per Doris Rutledge Nov 14, 1996
Henry Hurd Farrow spelled his surname according to the Family Bible. He is the only one of Henry Harland Farrow and Ella Indiana's who kept the original spelling of their last name. Unknown why the name was changed from Farrar to Farrow in later Generations.
The following information given by Dave Alexanders.
WWI veteran, Company F, 142nd Infantry
Henry removed from Oklahoma to Glendale, AZ in the 1930's and worked as a laborer, a "pick and shovel" laborer as he declared in the 1940 census. He apparently never remarried after losing his wife nearly 30 years prior.
Son of Henry Harland Hollie Farrow (Henry Jr apparently changed the spelling of his surname to the original spelling) and his first wife, Ella Indiana Bethany, who died when Henry Farrar was 11; Henry Farrar's grandparents were Henry Farrar [born March 22, 1828 in Alabama; he enlisted in the Confederacy on March 29, 1862 with the East Perry Rangers...Some time down through the years, the descendants of (or some of the descendants of) Henry and Jane Farrar apparently changed the spelling of the surname to Farrow. The family bible gives the death date of Henry Farrar as May 14, 1862,but Civil War Records say it was June 1862. Civil War Papers do not give the exact date of death, and there are records with various dates, but his death was soon after he enlisted, which was March 29,1862. One record shows that he may have died in General Hospital in Okolona, Mississippi. Henry Farrar married Jane Elizabeth Russell of Alabama (born 11 Jun 1833; died 19 May 1871 MS).
Henry Farrar of whom we note and is buried in AZ, had as maternal grandparents: Phins or Phius Bethany (born in SC) and Jane Bethany (born in Georgia), who came to Mississippi and had a large family, at least eight children, of whom Ella Indiana Bethany was the second oldest.
Henry Farrow, father of Henry Farrar, was but a few months old when his father died in the Civil War. After marrying Ella, the couple had the following children:
Maggie Jane Farrow 1886 – 1910
Henry Hurd Farrar 1888 – 1963
Lula Backus Farrow 1890 – 1965
Hance Breland Farrow 1892 – 1975
Howard Farrow 1895 – 1981
Henry Hurd Farrar married Beulah Mae Williams, who died at age 22: born: Jan 25, 1889 in Mississippi died July 13,1911 in Neshoba County, Mississipi. The couple had one child, who was less than two months old when Beulah died: Van Buren Farrar (born June 1, 1911 Mississippi; died Sep 20, 1989 in Glendale, Arizona).
Henry Hurd is shown as farming in Oklahoma in 1917, when he signs up for the draft. Though his son had only one living parent, Henry enters the army and is a veteran of WWI.
