An interesting aside: In 1918 a friend of Dad’s, demonstrating his ouija board, asked where Riley Dexter was born. It responded: Wisconsin. We didn't think much of that until a few years ago my son, Jim, was searching the family tree and ran across Riley Shurb Dexter born in Coloma County, Wisconsin, Feb 26, 1887.
Dad often told of a visit to his grandma Meacham-Keeler-Fuller-Brunson when he was 2 years old. I haven’t asked the county recorder for a copy of the birth certificate. Allegany County was not recording births in 1887, so Grandma might have had his birth recorded there at the time of his baptism ten or more years later.
9-2-2007 Robert Allison Dexter writes:
"I notice the census lists the home as mortgaged. Grandpa Ralph was a day laborer and jobs weren't always plentiful. Maybe that accounts for the fact that they didn't stay in the house long. They lived in several different places while they were there before they moved to Washington. Their houses and the move are interesting stories, at least to the family. Dad always referred to the place as Coloma Corners, and the county as Coloma. I notice the census says Richfield, Adams County. I don't remember Dad ever mentioning Adams County, but I can't remember everything he said. He often mentioned that in school they had to memorize all the counties in Wisconsin."

The only official record of his birth is an affidavit signed by his father Ralph M. Dexter in Snohomish County, Washington, March 10, 1952.
An interesting aside: In 1918 a friend of Dad’s, demonstrating his ouija board, asked where Riley Dexter was born. It responded: Wisconsin. We didn't think much of that until a few years ago my son, Jim, was searching the family tree and ran across Riley Shurb Dexter born in Coloma County, Wisconsin, Feb 26, 1887.
Dad often told of a visit to his grandma Meacham-Keeler-Fuller-Brunson when he was 2 years old. I haven’t asked the county recorder for a copy of the birth certificate. Allegany County was not recording births in 1887, so Grandma might have had his birth recorded there at the time of his baptism ten or more years later.

"I notice the census lists the home as mortgaged. Grandpa Ralph was a day laborer and jobs weren't always plentiful. Maybe that accounts for the fact that they didn't stay in the house long. They lived in several different places while they were there before they moved to Washington. Their houses and the move are interesting stories, at least to the family. The only official record of his birth is an affidavit signed by his father Ralph M. Dexter in Snohomish County, Washington, March 10, 1952.
An interesting aside: In 1918 a friend of Dad’s, demonstrating his ouija board, asked where Riley Dexter was born. It responded: Wisconsin. We didn't think much of that until a few years ago my son, Jim, was searching the family tree and ran across Riley Shurb Dexter born in Coloma County, Wisconsin, Feb 26, 1887.
Dad often told of a visit to his grandma Meacham-Keeler-Fuller-Brunson when he was 2 years old. I haven’t asked the county recorder for a copy of the birth certificate. Allegany County was not recording births in 1887, so Grandma might have had his birth recorded there at the time of his baptism ten or more years later.
9-2-2007 Robert Allison Dexter writes:
"I notice the census lists the home as mortgaged. Grandpa Ralph was a day laborer and jobs weren't always plentiful. Maybe that accounts for the fact that they didn't stay in the house long. They lived in several different places while they were there before they moved to Washington. Their houses and the move are interesting stories, at least to the family. Dad always referred to the place as Coloma Corners, and the county as Coloma. I notice the census says Richfield, Adams County. I don't remember Dad ever mentioning Adams County, but I can't remember everything he said. He often mentioned that in school they had to memorize all the counties in Wisconsin."
