The funeral for Alverta Mae Reynolds Penn, 65, of 103 Crestwood Court, Martinsville, who died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Rock Run Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Russell Redd will officiate. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the funeral and other times at the home.

She was born in Henry County on Jan. 2, 1940, to Elder David Reynolds and Alberta Spencer Reynolds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Anthony Reynolds, Harry Reynolds, Walter Reynolds, Garrett Reynolds and Richard J. Rashid; two sisters, Maggie Holt and Mary Reynolds; and a daughter, Charlene Hayes.

She retired from DuPont where she worked for 18 years, was a member of Rock Run Primitive Baptist Church and was assistant Church Mother.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Penn of the home; three daughters, Faye Ingram of Bassett, Renee Bannister of Durham, N.C. and Cherie Ann Penn of St. Paul, Minn.; a son, Edward K. Penn of Detroit, Mich; three brothers, Julius Reynolds of Martinsville, Rev. Eugene Reynolds of Spencer and Dana Reynolds of Queens Village, N.Y.; five sisters, Kitty R. Harley and Katherine Millner, both of Martinsville, Scline Sellers of Roanoke, Novella Dodson of Martinsville and Annie Kate Young of Chester; and three grandchildren.

Hines Funeral Services in Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.
