He came to North Dakota in 1907 and settled in Clement township. He married Emmy Malmberg in Minneapolis 24 Oct 1917. Four children were born to this union. They moved to Oakes in 1946. On Dec 18, 1953 he suffered a stroke and since that time had been in failing health. Left to mourn are his wife; two sons, Ivan and Clifford of Oakes; and two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Smith (Inez) of Oakes and Mrs. Marlyn Knoll (Janice) of Minneapolis. Nine grandchildren survive as well as two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were held at the American Lutheran church of Oakes on Oct 10 with Rev. C.M. Rasmussen officiating.
