Democratic Congressman from Saint Paul, Minnesota for 12 terms. Born in St. Paul. Graduated from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. Taught in Minneapolis Public Schools. Elected to Minnesota House in 1970. Elected to U. S. Congress in 1976 where he served until his death. Co-author of legislation in his first term that established the BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area) in northern Minnesota. Friend of the wilderness and the disadvantaged all his life. (bio by: Bill Sonsin) 

Cause of death: Malignant Mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos

Bruce Vento was my science teacher at Nokomis Junior High in Minneapolis in the mid-1960's. Rest in Peace, Mr. Vento.
