KEIZER - Omar F. Kelsey, 84, died April 12th at Keizer Retirement Village after a courageous battle with diabetes and emphysema.

He was born August 23, 1919, in Landax, Ore. After graduating from high school in Oakridge, Ore., he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Alaska. He enlisted in the USAAF and rose to the rank of Captain, flying B-17s in the European Theatre. After completing 32 missions flying ?path-finder,? he was shot down over enemy territory and walked back. For his bravery and exceptional service to our country, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as winning the Air Medal three times.

Talented at working with his hands, after WWII, he was an engineer at Sick's Brewery for 6 years. After the brewery closed, he worked at Valley Welding Supply for 30 years. He also found time to design and craft many striking wood and jewelry creations. A strong sense of humor and delight in life endeared him to his friends. He was the loving husband of Dorotha (Bradford) who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved son, his sisters, and his brother-in-law, all of whom will miss him greatly.

The family would like to thank the staff of Keizer Retirement Village, the Willamette Valley Hospice, and the caregivers from the Marquis Home Care for their loving care of Omar.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m., Sat., April 17, and interment will be Sat., April 17, both at Restlawn Memory Gardens. Restlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
