July 23, 1906 to Sept 25, 1990

W.C. (Cliff) Kemmerer, 84, of Ames, died of a heart attack at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

He was born in Boone County to Simon and Artie Kemmerer, and was a life-time resident of Boone and Story counties. He was married to Emma Hobson, who died in 1981, and Thelma Rhodes, who died in 1990. He was retired manager of Hunter Oil Co. and held memberships in Moose Lodge, Wilson Elder Care and American Legion.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Ulrick of Amana, Mary Thompson of McCallsburg, and Viola Hovenic of Arvada, Colo.; three sons, Alvin of Colo, James of Denver and Russell of Ames; one sister, Erma Wirtz of Boone; four brothers, Jack of Boone, Kenneth of Gilbert, Robert of Evansdale, and Henry of Edwardsville, Ill.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, one son and five brothers.

Visitation will be held Sept. 28 after noon at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be Sept. 29 at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Gruber officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery.
