Willard F. Farmer, 78, of Chalmers, died at 1:35 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at IU Health of Lafayette.
He was born on February 19, 1936 in White County to the late Clyde M. and Mamie B. (Musall) Farmer. Willard was a 1954 graduate from Chalmers High School and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958, where he obtained the rank of Specialist (SP4).
His marriage of nearly 55 years was to Virginia "Shirley" Riddle on June 28, 1959 in the Monticello Christian Church. She survives.
He was a lifelong resident of White County and moved to Chalmers when he was 9 years old. Willard was a Gear Inspector at Fairfield Manufacturing, retiring in 1996 after 35 years of dedicated service.
Willard was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed woodworking, where he made swings, shelves, and quilt racks; he also loved his dogs and gardening, especially growing his own popcorn to share with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed going on rides in his Harley golf cart and scooter, usually stopping at the ballpark to watch his grandson play. He was hardworking, stubborn, and ornery, however he was an old softy, even though he showed his "Farmer frown" from time to time.
Surviving with his wife are his children, Teresa Brutans (fiancé: Ray Warren) of Brookston, Anita Amstutz (husband: Andy) of Lafayette, and Brian Farmer (wife: Denise) of Columbus, GA.
He is also survived by his grandchildren; Brandon Ball, Justin Ball (wife: Kelly), Jacob and Jadrianne Amstutz, Megan Farmer (fiancé: Joel Rodriguez), Lauren Farmer, and Katherine and Elizabeth Farmer; step-grandson, Jordan Brutans (wife: Amanda), and step-great-grandson, Keaton Brutans.
He is preceded in death by a beloved son-in-law, David Brutans, one brother, Russell Farmer, and two sisters, Donnabelle Hughes, and Ellen Jenkins.
Pastor Gilbert Kerrigan officiating. Interment to follow in Chalmers Cemetery.
