| Birth: | Jul. 31, 1396 | | Death: | Jun. 15, 1467 | French Royalty. Also known as Philip the Good or Philippe le Bon. Son of Duke John the Fearless. In 1409 he married Michele of Valois, daughter of Charles VI of France and Isabeau of Bavaria, and in 1424 Bonne of Artois, daughter of Philip of Artois, Count of Eu, also his uncle's widow. His third marriage in 1430 with Isabella of Portugal, daughter of John I of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster, produced three sons: Antoine, Count of Charolais; Joseph, Count of Charolais; and Charles the Bold, Count of Charolais and his successor as Duke of Burgundy. When he died, as he wished, his son gave him separate burial places. The heart remained buried in front of the altar in the Church of St. Donation at Bruges, until the destruction of the church in 1791; and his body was buried alongside his father and grandfather at the Charterhouse in Dijon.
